NewJeans has just made history with their Billboard 200 debut!
On July 30 local time, Billboard announced that NewJeans’ new mini album “Get Up” had debuted at No. 1 on its Top 200 Albums chart (its weekly ranking of the most popular albums in the United States), marking the girl group’s very first time entering the Billboard 200.
NewJeans is only the second female K-pop artist ever to top the Billboard 200, following BLACKPINK—and at just over a year into their career, they are now the fastest to achieve the feat.
Notably, NewJeans’ “Get Up” and BLACKPINK’s 2022 album “BORN PINK” are the only two albums by all-female groups to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in the last 15 years. (The last girl group to top the chart before BLACKPINK was Danity Kane in 2008.)
Even including male artists, NewJeans is only the sixth K-pop artist to reach No. 1 on the chart, following BTS, SuperM, Stray Kids, BLACKPINK, and TXT.
According to Luminate (formerly Nielsen Music), “Get Up” earned a total of 126,500 equivalent album units during the week ending on July 27. The mini album’s total score consisted of 101,500 traditional album sales and 24,500 streaming equivalent album (SEA) units, which translates to 34.39 million on-demand audio streams over the course of the week. The EP also racked up 500 track equivalent album (TEA) units in its first week.
Meanwhile, NewJeans also debuted two new songs from “Get Up” on Billboard’s Hot 100 (which ranks the most popular songs in the United States): “ETA” entered the chart at No. 81, while “Cool With You” debuted at No. 93. Additionally, the group’s hit pre-release single “Super Shy” rose to a new peak of No. 48 in its third consecutive week on the chart, marking NewJeans’ highest ranking on the Hot 100 to date.
As a result, NewJeans is now the female K-pop artist in history to chart three songs simultaneously on the Hot 100.
Congratulations to NewJeans on their historic achievements!
