Jessi Admits Her Unexpected Feelings About Performing At “WATERBOMB Festival”

Jessi Admits Her Unexpected Feelings About Performing At "WATERBOMB Festival"

She shares the reason she comes back every year.

Veteran soloist Jessi is WATERBOMB Festival royalty after performing as a headlining act every year since its founding in 2015.

Each year, Jessi returns with a head-turning outfit and even revealed that her 2018 WATERBOMB Festival outfit “changed the standard” when she became the first performer to wear a bikini.

This is what changed the whole standard. I was like, everyone at WATERBOMB was still dressing [normal], right? But I was like, ‘It’s a f*cking WATERBOMB! I’ve been doing this for so long, might as well just wear a f*cking bikini.’ So I was the first one that wore a bikini.

Along with her boundary-pushing fashion, Jessi brings to the stage her infectious and lively energy, working the crowd with her hit songs as fans engage in a friendly water cannon battle.

WATERBOMB Festival is a highly-anticipated event, but in recent years, artists have become more outspoken about the potential dangers they face by participating in the water-based festival.

In her recent video podcast appearance on Dumbfoundead‘s Fun With Dumb, Jessi opened up about how she truly felt about the annual festival.

So WATERBOMB, for people who tune aren’t familar, it’s a festival during the summer- a music festival- there’s water guns and everything, you’re splashing the audience.

— Dumbfoundead

As Dumbfoundead described the festival, Jessi hilariously interjected, calling it “the worst,” but for a good reason.

Jessi explained that the festival itself is “beautiful” and an “amazing” experience, but it poses some potential dangers to the performing artists.

Oh god, it’s the worst… It’s beautiful, like, performing the event is amazing, but the artist— it’s so difficult because everyone in the front row has water guns. These water guns are so accurate.

— Jessi

Many artists have complained about the use of water guns and cannons that are pointed toward the performers. Lee Young Ji and (G)I-DLE‘s Shuhua have spoken out about water being deliberately sprayed in their eyes during their performances.

“ (…) if aespa comes, please tell them to remove their colour contact lens. please promise me to shout, “remove your colour contact lens!” or “don’t remove your goggles!” cause now I can’t see in my left eye at all. so you guys have to promise me, okay?” pic.twitter.com/Zsz6cZ7SR0

Jessi shared the concerns of fellow artists and said audience members sprayed her eyes and nose.

When Dumbfoundead reasoned that “everyone’s splashing each other, it’s a water fest,” Jess hilariously added that she felt differently.

But it’s like, ‘Bruh, I’m performing!‘ And they’re splashing… they’re directly spraying it in your eye. When you go home, you have water in every hole. Everything is wet.

— Jessi

While it’s not the most comfortable experience, Jessi continues to perform each year because she knows how much fun it is for fans.

It just like— doesn’t feel good. But you know, it’s always fun for the people. I do it for the people.

— Jessi

During the interview, Jessi opened up about the “boundary-pushing” outfit she wore to WATERBOMB Festival that she wouldn’t wear again.
