Mnet’s “Queendom Puzzle” revealed the name of its upcoming project group during the show’s first elimination ceremony!
A spin-off of the hit survival show “Queendom,” “Queendom Puzzle” features idols—including members of currently active girl groups—battling for spots in a new seven-member project girl group. Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon, who previously hosted the second season of “Queendom,” serves as the show’s MC.
On last week’s episode of “Queendom Puzzle,” the contestants wrapped up the All-Rounder Battle, which featured five rounds of competition between the Queendom team and the Puzzle team.
The breakdown of the two teams was as follows:
Queendom Team
Puzzle Team
This week, Taeyeon announced that the Puzzle Team had won all five rounds and was the ultimate winner of the battle. The Puzzle Team’s combined score from all five rounds was 1,146, while the Queendom Team’s total score was 812.
As a result, all the members of the Puzzle Team had 20,000 points added to their individual voting scores, increasing their chances of moving on to the next round without being eliminated.
Taeyeon then informed the contestants that they would each be performing one of three brand-new songs for the show’s upcoming semifinals: “PUZZLIN’,” which was co-composed by DAY6’s Young K; “i DGA,” which was co-composed by iKON‘s Bobby; or “I Do,” which was co-composed by the famous producer Ryan Jhun.
Previously, viewers were asked to vote for the contestants that they thought would suit each song, and the 26 contestants were split up into three groups based on the voting results.
However, Taeyeon went on to reveal that because five contestants would be eliminated before the semifinals, the member lineups for each song were not final.
The initial team lineups for the semifinal songs were as follows:
The show then returned to this week’s live elimination ceremony, with the 26 contestants coming together for a group performance of their theme song “RISE UP.”
After the performance, Taeyeon announced that the name of the seven-member project group formed on “Queendom Puzzle” would be EL7Z U+P (pronounced “Ellz Up”), a stylized anagram of the word “PUZZLE.”
Taeyeon then revealed the current top 7 contestants based on the results of the global vote thus far (plus the benefits awarded through the show’s various missions).
The top 7 (announced randomly, in no particular order) were as follows:
However, the votes were reset immediately after today’s episode, meaning that the contestants’ current rankings will have no impact on the final results.
Meanwhile, the five contestants who were eliminated during today’s ceremony were:
After airing a special episode next week (August 1), “Queendom Puzzle” will air its semifinals and finals live on August 8 and August 15 respectively. Seven contestants will be eliminated during the semifinals, meaning that only 21 contestants will be moving on to the live finale.
