“They have so much talent and potential it’s frustrating.”
Since their debut in February of last year, NMIXX has had a bit of a controversial career as a K-Pop group. While the members themselves are undoubtedly talented, especially when it comes to vocals, JYP Entertainment has been criticized for giving them unusual “mixx pop” songs that don’t appeal to the general public.
And in an era where there are so many incredibly successful new girl groups — NewJeans, IVE, LE SSERAFIM, and aespa, to name just a few — fans of NMIXX feel like they still haven’t found a solid niche for themselves in the K-Pop industry due to their poor management.
The group’s most recent comeback with the album A Midsummer NMIXX’s Dream, which came out on July 11, was released not even four months after their previous album, expérgo, came out on March 20 earlier this year. Fans worry that their comebacks are too close together, and that their comeback timing was poor due to it being so close to other major releases from NewJeans, BTS‘s Jungkook, EXO, and ZEROBASEONE.
Not only that, but many also feel that this comeback was underwhelming for NMIXX. And recently, a part of the dance for their title track “Party O’Clock” has received criticism for looking awkward, despite the members’ best efforts.
The part of the choreography in question happens during the choruses, and requires the members to do a sort of squat while bending their knees in and out — something that would be awkward for anyone to perform.
You can see the moment around 0:47 and 1:48 in this live performance…
And around the same times in their dance practice video.
The gifs above were shared on an online forum post, where netizens criticized their choreographers as well as their overall management for the group not becoming as successful as their talent should let them be.
In such a highly competitive field with all the talented K-Pop girl groups right now, we hope that NMIXX continues to build up their fandom and find their place in the industry as they deserve!
