It has been confirmed that the Japanese drama ‘The Days’, which dealt with the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, which was controversial due to its delayed release in Korea, will be released on July 20th.
As a result of confirming with the Netflix Korean branch, ‘The Days’ is scheduled to be released on Netflix Korea on July 20th. ‘The Days’ is an 8-episode drama dramatizing the 7-day situation at the time of the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, and is an original content invested by Netflix. Netflix received attention enough to record the number one viewing time in the non-English language TV category.
‘The Days’ was controversial because it did not release a video only in Korea on the 1st. Since Netflix even uploaded an official trailer with Korean subtitles through YouTube content, suspicions were raised that it was not being kept private in consideration of the controversy over the discharge of contaminated water in Fukushima.
In this regard, the Korean branch of Netflix announced that the release of the video was delayed in a transitional period as the video rating classification standard changed.
In the past, the Korea Media Rating Board classified videos circulated in Korea by age, but starting in June, it was reorganized so that OTT operators autonomously set ratings. As the system changed, discussions for self-grading were held, and the disclosure was delayed. According to Netflix, more than 20 works have been delayed for the same reason, including ‘Kengan Ashura Season 2’.
An official from the Korean branch of Netflix said, “We have implemented our own rating classification policy, but it is not a situation where we can disclose it freely just because there is no deliberation, but we need to improve the system ourselves.” said
The official said, “Also, in the case of Japanese content, it has been screened in theaters or broadcast channels and then uploaded to streaming services.” It has been done according to the policy. The process of reviewing the law was delayed because the standards related to this were not clearly established.”
